FOR BUTTS COUNTY MARCH THRU MAY BUSTER THE BROWN TRASHER VISITS JACKSON ! Buster, the State Mascot, for Keep Georgia Beautiful “Litter It Cost You” program visited Jackson to kick-off the GAC. While in Jackson, Buster visited our elementary schools and many downtown businesses. Each year Keep Georgia Beautiful partners with Keep America Beautiful and corporate sponsors for the Great American Cleanup. This is the third year that CUBA has co-ordinated this event in Butts County and reported the results to KGB. We had 136 volunteers join in the GAC for Butts County. We held 41 cleanup events and 452 volunteer man-hours resulting in 11,240 lbs of litter and debris removed from our streets and roadways, this includes 3,535 lbs of scrap tires collected for recycle. Jackson Lake Homeowners Association's cleanup on Jackson Lake produced 3,860 lbs of litter and debris. Some 55 volunteers worked 192 man-hours during this event. Please plan to join us in the GAC for 2009. click “photo gallery”
APRIL 21ST THRU MAY 2ND
The City of Jackson's Amnesty ended May 2, 2008. 30,300 lbs of litter and debris were collected, 1500 lbs of scrap metal and 1,560 lbs of scrap tires for recycle. Jackson has offered this program for many years to It's citizens. Over the pass several years there has been a gradual decline in the amount collected during the annual amnesty. This is a positive indication that the citizens are taking advantage of the amnesty and the program is working. 2008 GAC for Butts County produced over 23 tons of litter, debris, scrap tires and metal.

BRING ONE FOR THE CHIPPER This is the first year CUBA has been associated with this event. The program is designed to keep Christmas trees out of our landfill. Working with Butts County and the City of Jackson nearly 200 hundred trees were collected after Christmas. The trees were either mulched or used as fish habitats. Please recycle your tree and help us keep them out of our landfill.
